English Camp is a routine agenda in every once a year. It is held by the English Education Department, which is followed by all students of English Education Department from all classes. The lecturers are also participating in this activity and they are very supportive of this activity. On the February 16th & 17th 2019, English Education Department held the third English Camp based on the motto “Join as One Gather as Family”, which aims to connect the ties of the English Education Department family, to increase solidarity, to build a sense of kindship and to improve student insight into English.
This year the English camp is held at the Villa Hamsah Batu, in this activity there is a very interesting program which helps to improve the quality of students in English. Some of the activities that are carried out in this English camp are dividing students into ten groups where each group consisted of about ten people, so why we make a group, because the students can work together with others, respect each other’s opinions and be able to build fraternity. At the first day an art stage is held which is displayed by each group, the rules in the performing arts namely whatever the performance must be in English, because this is one way for students to think creatively, actively and still aim to improve their skills in English.
For the next activity, which is cooking, each group is obliged to cook food that has been shared by the committee, so the results of their cooking will be eaten together. Furthermore, on the second day, a competition is held which must be attended by each group, the committee prepares 5 competitions, namely, ranking one, running detection, taking coins in the pool, throwing balls and aqua’s queen. The reason to the application of these competitions to students, because we want them to build a good cooperation, and it is all still with the same rules, so that in each race we still use English, because considering the purpose of the English Camp agenda is to improve their skills in English.
